Spiritual Care Services

Ziyara Muslim Spiritual Care may include the following:

  1. Visiting of the Sick / Ziyarat Al-Mareed:  Visiting of the sick is a Muslim essential right that is confirmed in authentic Hadith Qudsi and Hadith of the Prophet, peace be upon him. It is highly recommended to visit Muslim patients, support them during their illness.  Our chaplain and volunteers will visit any Muslim patient in all Fresno/Clovis hospitals.
  2. Reading of the Quran: The Quran is a source of healing. Chaplain and volunteers are ready to read the Quran for patients or provide a copy of the Quran to the patient to read.
  3. Dua / Supplication: Recite a dua supplication for the healing of patients.
  4. Prayer Request: Patients may request a prayer for them to be done after the Jum’a Friday prayers at one particular Masjid or at all Islamic Centers in Fresno.
  5. Prayer Needs: Providing patients with the direction of the Qibla, prayer schedule and will offer literature on how to pray, if necessary.  A prayer rug can be borrowed and returned to the nurse prior to discharge.
  6. Burial & Funeral Services: Muslim chaplains and volunteers will stand by the Muslim patient and their family during their last moments.  A chaplain with recite Sura Yasin, turn the patient towards Mecca, if possible, and close the patient’s eyes upon death.  Also, chaplains are instrumental in assisting in funeral and burial services in coordination with the different Islamic Centers.  Our funeral services protect the dignity of the deceased and alleviate the pain of the family.
  7. Halal Food:  We will provide patients and their families who wish to receive a halal meal, a list of local restaurants stores, and will work to coordinate for them to receive halal meals at reasonable prices.
  8. Diversity Training: Our Chaplains and volunteers will offer religious and cultural competency training to all medical staff and spiritual care workers at any medical institution in Central California.  The training will focus on how to take care of Muslim patients, the barriers to spiritual care among Muslim patients, the religious and cultural diversity of Muslim patients, Muslim beliefs, holidays and how to reach out of Muslims in the Valley.
  9. Spiritual Assessment:  The primary function of a chaplain to assess the needs of the patient by conducting a spiritual care assessment.  The discussion helps patients deal with stress, anger, spiritual vacuum and forgiveness, just to name a few.
