Worship-Friendly Initiative

Muslim Spiritual Care Services promotes the adoption of “Worship-Friendly Initiative” within hospitals to achieve excellence in regards to patient’s spiritual care.

Worship-Friendly Initiative in Islamic chaplaincy focuses on providing spiritual care that is patient-centered, evidence-based, and religiously-authentic. The core of Worship-Friendly Initiative is the facilitation of the practice of Islamic rituals, especially the five (5) daily prayers.

Worship-Friendly Initiative aims to create awareness of the following:

  • Performing an assessment on the individual religious needs of each patient
  • Provide spiritual care support to patients and their families.
  • Encourage spiritual and religious reflection
  • Strengthen the relationship with God SWT
  • Enhance institutions’ religious and cultural competency by working with hospital management to create an environment that actively makes it easy for patients to practice their faith.
  • Provide training to employees on the basic needs of Muslim patients and the facilitation of the delivery of services such as orientation on the direction of the Qiblah for prayers, importance of headscarf for female patients, availability of prayer mats, copies of the Quran, ablution Wudu kit and  dry ablution Taymum kit.
  • Offer the Islamic spiritual care services for end-of-life care*
  • Post-mortem Islamic spiritual care services

The Islamic spiritual care services are provided by a Muslim chaplain and assisted by trained Muslim volunteers: males and females.

* US Healthcare facilities must accommodate the religious needs of end-of-life patients per the guidelines of The Joint Commission (TJC) formerly known as JACHO, that accredits healthcare facilities.
